JACKSON – State Representative Martin J. Griffin (D-Jackson) today announced that grants will help fund the Summer Concert Series, at the Cascade Falls Park band shell, have been awarded. The grants are part of the Michigan Humanities Council's Arts & Humanities Touring Program.
"These concerts attract more than 10,000 people and offer the families of our community free, high-quality entertainment," Griffin said. "I'd like to thank the Michigan Humanities Council for recognizing the cultural enrichment that the Summer Concert Series provides."
Jackson County Parks and Recreation contacted Griffin for help in securing the grants. Griffin then wrote a letter to the Michigan Humanities Council expressing his support for the grant proposals and detailing how popular the concert series is with local residents.
The concert series runs through August. Performers include Blackthorn, a traditional Irish band, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5; the Gratitude Steel Band, which plays Caribbean-style music, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11; and Three Men and a Tenor, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18.
